Plants and planting

Lawn irrigation. Done in a minute.

Enter your lawn and your water. We lay out Hunter sprinklers and give you a shopping list.

Same steps as in Studio: three steps, with the sprinkler plan and shopping list shown right away.

  1. Water: garden tap, supply from the house or well, flow rate, pressure and where the water is on the plan.
  2. Areas: rectangle, L shape or your own lawn shape, plus spots that are not watered (tree, bed, terrace).
  3. Advanced: Hunter brand; soil, pipe layout, valve box and winterising are fine-tuned in Studio.

The calculator needs JavaScript. The calculation rules are described further down this page.

Plan for the installer (PDF)

Step-by-step instructions with pictures and a technical drawing of your irrigation. Studio prepares it from your plan, and the numbers in the guide match the drawing.

You get the PDF guide in Studio for 50 credits. You pay once per project.

  5. 5 Nozzle with filter
  6. 6 Valve box
Step by step
  1. 1 Centre the hole saw on the clamp.

How we calculate

  • Heads stand head-to-head: the spacing equals the throw. On a rectangle the corners are set to 90°, the edges to 180° and the inside to 360°. On an L shape and a drawn shape head-to-head is not guaranteed.
  • A zone draws at most 70 % of the source flow, and the controller is chosen by the number of zones. Water pressure is always an estimate, and we subtract a reserve of 1 bar from it.
  • Nozzles, bodies, valves and controllers come from the irrigation register in Studio (Hunter MP Rotator at 2.8 bar).
  • We may shorten the throw by at most 25 %, and the pipe length is an estimate. Slopes, buildings and paving are for Studio only.

Drip hose rows run along the longer side of the bed, the first row sits close to the frame and the row spacing depends on the soil. Beds are grouped into zones by the flow of your water source. The rules come from the irrigation register in Studio, which relies on manufacturer tables (Rain Bird, Hunter).

You enter the source flow. A zone draws at most 70 % of it. Hose reserve of 10 % for bends and trimming. Between beds we count 0.6 m of pipe and 2 connections per row.

Irrigation questions

Why did I get more zones?

Heads are watered in groups so that a zone never draws more than your water source can supply. A stronger source means fewer zones.

Is the result exact?

It is an estimate for shopping. Studio checks the slope, buildings, paving, pressure and pipe route and produces a plan with a shopping list.

Why can sprinklers and drip hose not share a zone?

They need a different pressure and a different flow. Drip hose needs low pressure from a regulator, sprinklers need more. So each type gets its own zone.

Do you sell irrigation too?

No. We sell Brick Premium raised beds. You can buy irrigation in any garden shop.

Slope, buildings, paving, a pump?Studio lays out heads and pipes exactly and produces a plan for the installer.
