The sandbox measures 1200 × 1200 × 180 mm and weighs about 38 kg assembled. The internal play area is close to the full footprint, which comfortably fits one to three children. For a play depth of roughly 120–150 mm of sand you should plan for about 200–250 kg of washed play sand — most garden centres sell it in 25 kg bags, so six to ten bags is a good starting point. Most people have it standing in well under half an hour. Set it on a level patch of lawn, patio, or a bed of compacted gravel — a level base keeps the frame square and the seating edge comfortable to sit on. If you want to keep the ground underneath cleaner, you can lay a permeable liner in the base before adding sand.

Caring for a larch sandbox

European larch weathers to a silver-grey tone over time; this is natural and does not weaken the wood.
